BALTIMORE - Due to the forecast of Hurricane Florence and its impact on traveling through the Carolinas, the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team's game at North Florida on Saturday has been canceled.
The Greyhounds will instead head north to Storrs, Connecticut, where they will face UConn on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium and admission will be free of charge.
This will be the second-ever meeting between the Huskies and Greyhounds, as UConn came out on top of the inaugural meeting, 5-1, in 2016.
Loyola, 3-1 overall this season and coming off a 1-0 win at St. John's Tuesday night, is led by MAC Hermann Trophy Award Watch List honoree
Brian Saramago. The junior forward has eight points this year on three goals and two assists. Junior
Davey Mason recorded his first career goal in the win over the Red Storm, while sophomore
Jake Dengler, junior
Barry Sharifi and junior
Morgan Lussi have also scored this season.
In goal,
Chase Vosvick has played all 366 minutes and he's tallied nine saves, including one on a penalty kick at Villanova. In giving up just two goals this season and recording two shutouts, he has a 0.49 goals-against average and a .818 save percentage.
Connecticut is 3-2 this season and a perfect 3-0 at home. Rising to No. 18 in the national polls after home wins over Lehigh, 2-1, and Niagara, 1-0, the Huskies fell at No. 24 Notre Dame, 3-0, and at No. 6 Indiana, 1-0. UConn returned home after the defeats and earned a 1-0 win over Dartmouth to remain undefeated at Morrone Stadium.
Abdou Mbacke Thiam leads the Huskies with two goals, including two game winners, and five points. Robin Lapert and Felix Metzler have scored UConn's other two goals.
In goal, Austin Aviza and Gianluca Catalano have split time, with Aviza playing all 90 minutes against Niagara, Indiana and Dartmouth, and Catalano playing against Lehigh and Notre Dame. Aviza has allowed just one goal for a 0.33 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage, while Catalano has a 2.00 GAA and .333 save percentage.
Saturday's match will be Loyola's final non-conference tune-up before it hosts Colgate in the Patriot League opener Friday night. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m., with the game being the first of a Loyola soccer doubleheader, as a Loyola-Navy women's game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
