CATONSVILLE, Md. – Loyola University Maryland pulled away for a first-set win on Saturday afternoon, but host UMBC came back to win the final three frames for a 19-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-16 victory in the final match of the Charm City Challenge.

The Greyhounds hit .300 in the opening set, but swung at just a .136 clip in the final three.
Â
Abby Hamilton led the Greyhounds offensively with 15 kills while also posting 14 digs.
Ann Ernst added 12 kills, while
Cat Vaccaro had eight.
Katie Forsythe recorded a team-high 22 digs for the Greyhounds, and
Mackenzie Fedota added five total blocks.

UMBC led 16-14 in the first set when a Hamilton kill sided out for Loyola and started a run of four more points on her serve. The Retrievers scored two points after calling a timeout, getting back within one, 19-18, but the Greyhounds tallied six of the next seven points to pull away for the win with the final point of the stanza coming on a block by
Alisah Cash and Ernst.

The Retrievers started quickly in the second set, getting out to a 10-4 lead that would build to 20-11.

In the third, Loyola took an 11-10 advantage with a four-point run capped by a Vaccaro-Fedota block. UMBC went back in front 14-13, but the Greyhounds scored two straight to lead 15-14 on a block by Cash and Hamilton.

Loyola edged ahead by a pair, 18-16, after a Vaccaro kill, but UMBC came back to lead 21-19 on a Kristin Watson ace. The Greyhounds got back within a point, 24-23, on a Hamilton kill, but Jamie Wood ended the set in the Retrievers' favor with a kill of her own.

The Greyhounds wrap up tournament action next weekend when they travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina for the Campbell Volleyball Invitational where they will face North Carolina Central University, Mercer University and the host Camels.
