CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland freshman
Jaylin Andrews turned in a pair of double-digit scoring performances last week and in turn was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week.
Andrews posted a career-high 15 points on Saturday afternoon, scoring 10 after halftime, as the Greyhounds won their fourth game in five outings with a 79-72 overtime decision against visiting Colgate University.
The freshman from Boys Latin School of Maryland also had a career-high four steals in the game, two coming in an overtime period in which he went 4-of-4 at the free-throw line to help push Loyola ahead for its third overtime win in four games.
On Wednesday night, Andrews helped lead a Greyhounds comeback that saw Loyola tie first-place Bucknell University at 68-68 with 35 seconds to play. Although the Bison went on for a 71-68 victory, Andrews scored seven of his 10 points in the second half and also had five rebounds and a steal.
In the two games, Andrews averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals for Loyola. He has scored 10 or more in three-straight games, and since being inserted to the Greyhounds' starting five on January 12 against the U.S. Military Academy, he has averaged 9.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game over the last five.
Andrews and the Greyhounds will be back in action on Wednesday, January 30, at home in Reitz Arena when they host American University in a 7 p.m. game.
