BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's tennis played its final competition of the fall this weekend, hosting the Greyhounds Tennis Classic.
The team of
Skyler Gates and
Luis Bonilla advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with a quarterfinals win over Johns Hopkins' Eric Yoo and Naevin Anukornchaikul. The Greyhounds team scored a 6-4 win in doubles before Gates clinched the match with a 7-5, 1-6, (10-4) victory over Yoo in singles. Gates and Bonilla then lost in the semifinals, 2-1 to a team from Harford Community College. Gates was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in singles in that round.
Benny Glezer and
Kyle Gower won their opening-round match against a trio that competed from Harford. Glezer and Gower defeated Jackson Cesark and William Lopez in doubles, 6-1, and Glezer was a 6-0, 6-1 winner against Cesark in singles. Gower then defeated Michael Francis, 6-0, 6-0.
Nate Ferro and
Grant Williford were 2-1 winners against Johns Hopkins' Aaron Wang and Eric Burrer in the first round. The Greyhounds won 7-5 in doubles, and Ferro used a super-tiebreaker to beat Wang, 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) in singles.
Edik Pribitkin and
Colin Corsini advanced through the first round against a Coppin State team. The Greyhounds won, 6-2, in doubles and Corsini won, 6-0, 6-1 in singles.
Pribitkin had a 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) singles win against Johns Hopkins' Brian Wang in the quarterfinals, and Glezer and Gower beat the Blue Jays' Robbie Simon and Jack Hogan in a quarterfinals doubles match, 6-3. Ferro and Williford were also 7-6 (6) winners against a Harford team in the quarterfinals.
