CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Fresh off an overtime win against Fairfield University on Sunday night, Loyola University Maryland's
Andrew Kostecka and
Golden Dike took home the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
Kostecka poured in 31 points, finishing one off his career-high on Sunday night, leading the Greyhounds to an 84-75 overtime win over Fairfield. The senior made 11 of his 18 shots and was 8 of 10 from the free-throw line, including 4 of 4 during the extra period. He also finished with six assists, five rebounds and four steals in the victory.
Loyola trailed by 12 with 13:29 left in regulation, but Kostecka scored 19 of his 31 points after that point to force overtime and seal the win.
In two games last week, Kostecka averaged 22.5 points as he also led Loyola with 14 points on Wednesday night in a nine-point loss to at last year's Conference USA champion, Old Dominion. In addition to his 22.5 points this week, he averaged 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals.
Dike had a terrific regular-season home debut on against the Stags, scoring 18 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and zero turnovers. Loyola trailed by 12 with 13:29 left in regulation, but Dike tallied 12 of his 18 points after that point to help key the comeback.
The Spanish freshman also made his first collegiate start and played 41 minutes including all 25 of the second half and overtime.
Loyola returns to action on Tuesday night when it heads to Fairfax, Virginia, for a 7 o'clock game at George Mason University.
