Patriot League Championships Start Tuesday

• Loyola University Maryland volleyball opens play in the Patriot League Championships on Tuesday, November 19, when it heads to the Hudson Valley to face the U.S. Military Academy for a 7 p.m. quarterfinal match against the Black Knights.
• The match will steam live on the Patriot League Network.

Championship Facts

• The Greyhounds are making their second-straight appearance in the Patriot League Championships. Last year, they qualified for the postseason tournament for the first time since joining the conference in 2013.
• Loyola faced the U.S. Naval Academy in last year's semifinals, falling in four to the eventual Patriot League Champions.
• Prior to last season, the last time the Greyhounds had advanced to a non-full-field conference tournament was 2007 when it reached the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Semifinals.

Two Better Than Five

• Loyola's last two seasons have produced 15 Patriot League victories during the regular-season and two trips to the conference championships. In the Greyhounds first five years in the League, starting in 2013, they won just 13 conference matches.

Twice Is Nice

• Katie Forsythe was named the Patriot League Libero of the Year for the second time in as many seasons, becoming the first player in conference history to win the award as both a freshman and sophomore.
• She also earned All-Patriot League First Team recognition for the second year in a row and was joined on the All-League team by Ann Ernst who was named to the second team.

Leading The Nation

• Entering the Patriot League Championships, Katie Forsythe leads all of NCAA Division I in total digs with 726 this season. She is third in digs per set with 6.15.
• The Greyhounds also lead Division I in total assists with 1,511. Ashley Dwyer is responsible for 1,044 of those assists, while Alaina Acchione has totaled 311. We 

Tag Team

• Ann Ernst and Abby Hamilton have been the most prolific hitting tandem in the Patriot League this season, ranking first and second, respectively, in total kills. Ernst has posted 483 kills, while Hamilton has 437.
• On a per-set basis, Ernst is first in the conference with 4.13 kills, while Hamilton checks in third at 3.70. In Patriot League matches, they rank first and third with Ernst averaging 4.61 and Hamilton 3.92.
• They are also the only set of teammates who both rank in the top-30 in NCAA Division I in total kills this year.

Another Record-Setting Season

• Katie Forsythe set the Patriot League and Loyola single-season records for digs last season with 697, and she broke that mark this year, finishing the regular-season with 726.
• Forsythe added another mark in the books on October 26 against Holy Cross. She tied the conference and set the school single-match records for digs with 46 against the Crusaders. She matched the Naval Academy's Sydney Shearn who had 46 in a 2017 match against Army West Point. The 46 digs are tied for second-most in NCAA Division I this season.
• In Patriot League matches this year, Forsythe is averaging 6.65 digs per set (6.15 overall), 1.35 digs per set more than the next-closest conference player.

Up The Charts

• Ann Ernst had 20 kills on November 16 against Army West Point, moving into fifth in Patriot League history in total kills. Entering the Patriot League Championships, she has 1,587 kills and is also third in school history. Lafayette's Veronica Canto-Ponce (2003-06) is next on the Patriot League list at 1,600.
• Against Holy Cross, Ann Ernst moved into third all-time at Loyola in kills, passing Sarah Becker's total of 1,463 from 1991-94. Ernst also moved into the Patriot League's all-time top-10 during the match. Last month, Ernst accomplished a milestone that only four other Loyola players have reached, becoming the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
• Her 483 kills this season are a career-high and rank fifth in school single-season history. With two more, she'll tie Carisa Kreichauf (2000) and Nina Camaioni (2010) for third in school single-season history with 485.
• Over the course of her three-plus seasons – Ernst has played in 116 career matches – she has recorded 10 or more kills 87 times (75.0 percent of the time), 15 or more kills 50 times (43.1) and 20 or more 16 times (13.8).

Fastest To 1,000

• Sophomore libero Katie Forsythe became the fastest player to 1,000 digs in Loyola and Patriot League history when she picked up her 15th of the match against NJIT on September 22. 
• The Ohio native crossed the milestone in the second set of her 44th career match. Last year, she set the Patriot League and Loyola single-season records with 697 digs; with 726 this year, she has 1,371 career digs to rank third in Loyola's all-time history.

Upping Her Output

• Abby Hamilton started all 30 matches as a freshman and was second on the team with 354 kills, an average of 2.97 per set. This year, through 26 contests the Wisconsin native has increased her per-set mark significantly, checking in at 3.70 with 437 total kills. Hamilton has done this while raising her hitting percentage from .172 last year to .195 this season.
• In matches two weeks ago at Lafayette and Bucknell, Hamilton had 41 kills with only four errors for a .366 hitting percentage. She had a career-best 23 kills on November 1 against Lafayette.
