CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland freshman guard
Cam Spencer was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 13 points and 5 assists in three Greyhounds games last week.
The Davidsonville, Maryland, native shot 57.7 percent from the field, 46.7 percent from 3-point range and also had just two turnovers to 15 assists in the three games. Spencer averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in three Greyhounds games last week as Loyola went 2-1.
He opened the week with 13 points, five assists and four rebounds in a victory over IUPUI on a neutral floor in the Cayman Islands Classic Mainland Tournament at Omaha. Spencer followed that with a to-date career-high 15 points and six rebounds to go with another five assists and a steal in a five-point loss to Omaha, a team that won 21 games a year ago.
The freshman then made his first collegiate start on Sunday night in the Greyhounds' victory over Binghamton, helping to key a 23-5 run to close the first half while scoring 11 points to go with five assists.
Spencer is the second Loyola freshman to earn Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors this season after
Golden Dike garnered the honor on November 18.
