BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's Andrew Kostecka was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday, and he also earned College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week, after averaging 25 points, 6.5 rebounds and two steals in a pair of Greyhounds victories.
 
The senior guard led Loyola to two road wins last week at Delaware State University and Mount St. Mary's University, scoring 25 in both outings as the Greyhounds improved to 6-4 overall this year.
 
Kostecka opened the week with his first of two 25-point performances, grabbing seven rebounds and coming up with two steals, two assists and a blocked shot against the Hornets.
 
He finished with another 25 points in Saturday's win at Mount St. Mary's, helping the Greyhounds win their third-straight game; the Germantown, Maryland, native also had six rebounds and two steals in that game.
 
Kostecka shot 46.2 percent from 3-point range in the two games and made 10 of 11 free throws during the week.
 
This year, he leads the Patriot League with 21.4 points per game, and he is also averaging 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals in the 10 games Loyola has played.
 
This week's Patriot League award is the second of the season for Kostecka and the sixth of his career at Loyola. He is the first Loyola player to ever earn the Mid-Major honor from College Sports Madness.
 
The Greyhounds are in the midst of a two-week break for fall-semester final exams. They return to the court on Saturday, December 21, for a 2 p.m. game against Elizabethtown College in Reitz Arena.
