GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Loyola University Maryland sophomore
Evan Brown held onto first place and the Loyola University Maryland men's golf team used a solid second round to move into second place heading into tomorrow's final round of the Loyola Intercollegiate at the Palm Valley Golf Course.
With a team score of 4-under 572, the Greyhounds are one stroke behind tournament-leader Elon (571, -5) and hold a three-stroke lead over UAB and Missouri State, which are tied for third at 1-under 575.
Brown fired the day's best round for a second-consecutive day, turning in a 4-under 68 to stretch his lead to six strokes (135, -9) heading into the final round. Elon's William Harwood and Missouri State's Adam Fisher are tied for second at 3-under 141.
Junior
Preston Ball joins Brown in the top 10, as he carded a 1-under 71 to improve 18 spots and enter the final day tied for 10th with an even 144.
Senior
Erick Alonso also turned in a 1-under 71 today, marking the Greyhounds' largest improvement from yesterday, as he shaved five strokes off of his first-round score and improved 28 spots. He's now tied for 31st overall at 3-over 147.
Sophomore
Brandon Berry also scored for the Greyhounds today, turning in a 3-over 75, while classmate
Brett Inserra finished at 8-over 80. Berry is tied for 25th with a two-round score of 2-over 146 and Inserra is 99th at 17-over 161.
Sophomore
Nick Mejia, competing as an individual, is tied for 36th with a 4-over 148 after turning in a 6-over 78 today.
The Greyhounds will return to the course Monday morning for the third and final round. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8:45 a.m., with the Greyhounds playing with Elon, UAB and Missouri State.
