BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis split matches with visiting Lehigh University on Saturday afternoon at the McClure Tennis Center. The Greyhounds women picked up a victory by forfeit, but the Mountain Hawks were 7-0 winners in men's action.
Lehigh took an early lead with the doubles point in the men's contest as Harry Wang and Zack Elliott narrowly beat
Skyler Gates and Matthew Fitzmaurice, 7-6 (2) at No. 1.
Christopher Auteri and Jack Martin-Dyer were 6-4 victors against
Benny Glezer and
C.J. Cash at No. 2, and Gary Fishkin and Jacob Edelchik beat
Brian Hoffarth and
Kyle Gower, 6-4, at No. 3.
In singles play, Glezer and Gower forced decisive third sets in the number three and four flights, but Lehigh came away with wins in both. Martin-Dyer rallied to beat Glezer, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3, and Fishkin held off Gower, 6-3, 0-6, 7-5.
Wang beat Hoffarth, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Elliott topped Gates, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2. Edelchik got past Fitzmaurice, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in No. 5 singles, and Auteri did the same against Cash at No. 6, 7-5, 6-3.
The Loyola men's and women's teams are back in action at home on Sunday against Chestnut Hill College at 12 noon.
