Spencer, Savio, Scanlan Grab Patriot League Weekly Awards

Pat Spencer, Bailey Savio & Chase Scanlan earned Patriot League awards.
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse players Pat Spencer, Graham Savio and Chase Scanlan earned Patriot League weekly honors on Monday, garnering Offensive Player, Faceoff Specialist and Rookie of the Week recognition, following the Greyhounds' win over Bucknell University.

Spencer was involved in two-thirds of the Greyhounds goals as he moved into the top-10 on the NCAA career points list on Saturday, matching his career-high with five goals and dishing out three assists for eight points in a win at Bucknell. Spencer assisted on two of the Greyhounds' first three goals, and he then scored two more in the game's first 15:13 as Loyola built a 6-0 lead. He finished the first half with three goals and three assists, and he then added two more goals in the second half. Spencer also helped Loyola ride back six Bucknell clears, finishing with two caused turnovers and three ground balls while not committing a turnover.

His eight points moved his career total to 322 and past Yale University's Ben Reeves (316, 2015-18), Brown University's Darren Lowe (316, 1989-92) and Tim Nelson who had 320 playing for North Carolina State (1982) and Syracuse University (1983-85).

Savio dominated at the faceoff 'X' on Saturday, winning a career-high 73.9 percent of restarts against Bucknell. He went 17 of 23 and picked up 10 ground balls in the win. Four of his faceoff wins led directly to Loyola goals that came with 15 seconds of the previous goal being scored.

He was not credited with an assist, but he would have ended the game with three "hockey assists." Savio won 10 of 12 faceoffs in the first half and was 14 of 17 at the end of the third quarter.

Scanlan reinforced his position as the top goal-scoring freshman in NCAA Division I, finishing the afternoon with four goals and an assist in a 12-7 win over Bucknell.

He had two goals in the first quarter as the Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead 15:13 into the game, and he finished one off his career-high with four goals to go with an assist on a Pat Spencer goal.

The award is the Spencer's third this season and ninth since his freshman season of 2016, more than any Patriot League player has earned in the award's history. Savio's honor is his second this season and third of his career. Scanlan has earned three rookie awards this season.

Loyola begins a three-game homestand on Saturday, March 30, when it takes on Colgate University in a 1 p.m. game. The Greyhounds then hosts Lehigh University on Saturday, April 6, and Georgetown University on Tuesday, April 9.
