BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's tennis teams scored a pair of wins Wednesday afternoon with the men downing Howard University, 4-3, and the women sweeping the Bison, 7-0.

The men won the all-important doubles point, posting wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles against Howard.
Benny Glezer and
Edik Pribitkin teamed for a 6-4 win over Cole Gittens and Sagar Raju at No. 2, while
Brian Hoffarth and
Kyle Gower outlasted Kyle Martin and Devaughn Blackburn, 7-5, in the third. Howard won the No. 1 doubles match as Roger Lyn and Karim Shokeir beat
Skyler Gates and
Matt Fitzmaurice, 6-4.

The doubles point was critical to the Greyhounds' success as Howard won the one, two and three singles matches. Lyn topped Hoffarth, 6-2, 6-1; Gittens used a third-set victory to beat Gates, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; and, Shokeir beat Glezer, 6-4, 6-3.

Loyola, however won the four, five and six matches to claim the team victory. Gower knocked off Kyle Martin, 6-1, 6-2; Fitzmaurice beat Blackburn, 6-0, 6-2; and, Pribitkin was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Raju.

Kateri Martin and
Abigail Thornton blanked Nicole Hutchison and Christina Joynes, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles, while
Lin Robertson and
Alexandria Agee were 6-3 winners over Yassmine Khiri and Kendall Addison at No. 2. Aria Ragas and Dominique Jackson, however, topped Loyola's
Sandra Aguirre and Abby Dekcer, 6-3, at No. 3.

The Greyhounds then swept all six singles matches, starting with Martin taking down Khiri, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1.

Thornton came back from a first-set setback to beat Hutchison, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2, and Decker beat Addison, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3. Robertson topped Joynes, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4, and Aguirre defeated Ragas, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 5. Agee then knocked off Jackson, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6.

The Greyhounds are back in action this weekend when they travel to Philadelphia to take on La Salle University on Saturday, March 30, and Villanova University the following day.
