PHILADELPHIA – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams went on the road on Saturday and split a pair of matches against LaSalle University on the Explorers' home court.
The women's team shutout the Explorers, 7-0, to improve its record to 9-2 while the men's team dropped a 6-1 decision.
In the women's match, sophomore
Kateri Martin led the Greyhounds by winning her doubles match and her singles match. In doubles, she teamed up with sophomore
Abigail Thornton to beat Tiffany Theophil and Ali Snyder, 6-1. Martin beat Theophil at number one singles, 6-1, 6-4. Thornton earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Snyder at number two.
Juniors
Lin Robertson and
Alexandria Agee also won their number two doubles match, beating Brittany Poje and Aleks Nikolic, 6-4. Robertson also beat Nikolic at number four singles, 6-2, 6-3. Agee won her number six singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maansi Malhotra.
The Greyhounds swept the doubles action when freshmen
Abby Decker and
Sandra Aguirre beat Malhotra and Jazmine Walle, 6-0.
Decker beat Poje at number three singles, 6-3, 6-1 while Aguirre handed Walle a 6-3, 6-4 defeat at number five singles.
In the men's match, the Greyhounds picked up their only point when freshman
Skyler Gates beat Connor Merrill at number two singles, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
Freshman
Benny Glezer and senior
C.J. Cash won the number two doubles match with a 6-4 win over Rogelio Gonzalez and Merrill. But, LaSalle won the other two doubles matches to take the point.
Now 5-7 on the season, the men's tennis team will visit Villanova on Sunday, March 31 at 1:00 p.m. The women's team, which has won five in a row, also faces Villanova on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
