CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse players
Pat Spencer and
Chase Scanlan were named the Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on Monday after combining for 26 points in two Greyhounds games last week.
Spencer earned the Offensive Player award for the second time in as many weeks and the third time this season after scoring 11 points on three goals and eight assists Saturday versus College of the Holy Cross. The senior also had a goal and four assists Wednesday at Towson University.
In the game against the Crusaders, Spencer became the 15th player in NCAA Division I history, second at Loyola and first in the Patriot League to score 300 or more points in a career. He also moved into fifth place all-time in Division I in assists. His eight assists and 11 points against Holy Cross are the most by a Division I player this season.
Scanlan continued the stellar start to this collegiate career by scoring five goals and assisting on two against versus Holy Cross, three days after scoring once and assisting on two against the Tigers. He scored twice to start the fourth quarter against Holy Cross to spark a 4-0 run that put Loyola in control of the final period.
This season, Scanlan has scored 15 goals to go with six assists for 21 points. His 15 goals lead all NCAA Division I freshmen this season, and his 21 points are tops amongst first-year midfielders.
Loyola returns to the field on Thursday, March 7, when it travels to Durham, North Carolina, for a 7 p.m. game at Duke University.
