Tennis Teams Split With Mount St. Mary’s

Alexandria Agee won in singles and doubles Wednesday.
BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's tennis won five out of six singles matches to post a 5-2 victory over visiting Mount St. Mary's University, but the Mountaineers' men's team defeated the Greyhounds by the same score in non-conference action at the McClure Tennis Center.
 
Loyola's women were down, 1-0, after doubles play where Mount St. Mary's picked up the point by winning two of the three matches. Alexa Quintanilla and Hannah Davis pulled away for a 7-5 win over Loyola's Kateri Martin and Abby Thornton at No. 1 singles, while Taylor Cook and Mia Pittman topped  Abby Decker and Sandra Aguirre, 6-1, at No. 3. Lin Robertson and Alexandria Agee picked up a doubles win for the Greyhounds at No. 2, beating Emma Blake and Meg Smith, 6-2.
 
The Greyhounds then came back in singles play to take the win.
 
Martin beat Quintanilla at the No. 1 spot after the Mount St. Mary's player retired down, 3-0, in the first set with an injury. Thornton beat Smith, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2, and Robertson beat Cook at No. 4, 6-3 in the first and took the match when Cook bowed out with an illness in the second.
 
Aguirre was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against Pittman at No. 5 singles, and Agee dispatched Blake, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6. Mount St. Mary's picked up a singles win at No. 3 where Davis outlasted Decker, 4-6, 6-3, (14-12).
 
The Mountaineers again took a 1-0 lead after doubles in the men's match, winning two of three. Jackson Wood and Parth Sharma teamed for a 6-0 win over Skyler Gates and Matt Fitzmaurice at No. 1, and Alonzo Garcia and Gabe Santos beat Brian Hoffarth and Kyle Gower, 7-5, at No. 3. Loyola's Benny Glezer and C.J. Cash took a 6-4 decision over Jean Armstrong and Evan Hine at No. 2.
 
In singles play, Loyola picked up wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots. Cash knocked off Hine, 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the former, while Edik Pribitkin was a 6-1, 6-2 winner in the latter.
 
Wood beat Hoffarth, 6-2, 7-6 (4) at No. 1 singles, and Sharma was a 6-2, 6-4 victor against Gates at No. 2. Garcia bested Glezer, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3, and Armstrong used three sets to beat Gower, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
