BALTIMORE ­– Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse welcomed its 14 newcomers to the program on Thursday as first-year students moved onto the Evergreen campus for the 2019-20 academic year.
 
Twelve freshmen and two transfers will join the locker room when fall conditioning and practices begin for the Greyhounds: Chris Cottone (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall College), Jack Decker (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay/Marist), Jack Griffin (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo), Matt Heuston (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Evan James (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman), Joey Kamish (Wixom, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central), Eric Pacheco (Castle Pines, Colo./Valor Christian), Adam Poitras (Whitby, Ontario/Hill Academy), Will Sherwood (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding), Colton Teitelbaum (Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y./Locust Valley), Najee Taylor (Des Plaines, Ill./Loyola Academy), Calder VandelHeuvel (Frederick, Md./Glenelg Country) and Billy Weiss (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University).

Before Loyola: Graduated from nearby Calvert Hall College High School where he was a four-time letterwinner, earning two in both football and lacrosse… Won 70 percent of the faceoffs he took for the Cardinals during the 2019 season in which they were ranked No. 1 nationally… Won 63 percent at the X in 2018… Helped the Cardinals win both the 2018 and 2019 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) A-Conference titles… Named Calvert Hall's Unsung Hero for lacrosse in 2019… Was the starting kicker for Calvert Hall's football team.

Before College: Graduated from John Jay High School in East Fishkill, New York… Was a three-sport athlete, lettering in lacrosse, basketball and cross country, for John Jay/Wappingers… Four-year starter in lacrosse, earning All-Section and All-League honors as a junior and senior… Named to the Hudson Valley Dream Team as a junior and senior and was Area All-Star by the Poughkeepsie Journal those years, as well… Finished his career with 179 points as a midfielder… Led the Warriors to an appearance in the New York State Section I quarterfinals in 2017 as a senior, and the team made the sectional playoffs all four years… Played club for Long Island Sting.

Before Loyola: Graduated from Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, where he was a four-year letterwinner in lacrosse… Scored 245 points during his high school career with 140 goals and 105 assists… Earned All-State recognition his final three years at Ramapo and graduated as the Raiders' all-time leader in points… Was a USILA All-American as a senior in 2019 when he scored 41 goals and added 22 assists… Also earned All-State Group 2 and All-Bergen County First Team honors that year… Selected to the All-County First Team and All-State Group Two Second Team as a junior after scoring 19 times and adding 25 assists… Named to the Newark Star-Ledger/NJ.com's All-State Freshman/Sophomore First Team in his first two years of high school… Picked up All-State Group Two and All-Bergen County Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2017 with 42 goals and 24 assists… Named to the All-North Jersey Second Team by the Bergen Record in 2016 after posting 38 goals and 34 assists as a freshman… Ramapo won the New Jersey Group Two State title in 2017 and advanced to the semifinals of the State Tournament of Championships that year, the furthest the Raiders have ever advanced in lacrosse… Played club for Patriot Lacrosse.

Before Loyola: Graduated from Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pennsylvania, where he was a five-time letterwinner, picking up four in lacrosse and one in football… Scored 255 points with 166 goals and 89 assists over four years as a lacrosse starter for the Black Knights… Named the school's Male Athlete of the Year in 2019 as a senior… Four-time Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star, earning second team recognition in 2016 and 2019, first team in 2017 and 2018… Named to the All-Phillylacrosse.com Central/Northeast Pennsylvania team in 2018… Led Hempfield to the Lancaster-Lebanon League title in 2019 when he scored 37 goals and had 22 assists..> Tallied 54 goals and 38 assists as a junior after scoring 47 to go with 17 assists in 2017… Had 28 goals and 12 assists in 2016 as a freshman… Was a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section I First-Team All-Star as a running back for the Black Knights' football team in 2018… Played club for NXT, FCA Tampa (2018) and FCA Lake Placid in 2016 and 2017.

Markland Kelly Award as the top boys lacrosse player in Maryland after his senior in 2019… Wore Spalding's No. 7 in honor of Andy Eser, an honor voted on by his peers and coaches… Scored 28 goals and had 10 assists in 2019 as a senior after tallying 21 and 12 in 2018… Helped the football team finish as the Maryland Interscholashic Athletic Association's A Conference runner-up for two years a starting slot receiver… Played club for the Annapolis Hawks.
