Kostecka Earns Second-Straight Patriot League Player Of The Week Award

Andrew Kostecka scored 37 points in a win over Holy Cross.
BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's Andrew Kostecka was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second-straight time after turning in a career-high performance during the last several days.

Kostecka, who now has earned the honor four times this year and eight overall in his career, blew past his previous career-high on Thursday night, finishing with 37 points in a Patriot League-opening win over College of the Holy Cross. It was the second time in as many games that the senior had scored 30 or more points (30 at VCU on December 29, 2019).

The guard's 15 field goals made against the Crusaders were good for a tie for fourth in school history, and during the game he became the 10th player in Loyola history and 35th in Patriot League annals to amass 1,500 career points.

On Sunday at Lehigh, Kostecka, a nominee for the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year, scored 15 points to go with three assists, three blocked shots and a pair of steals. Overall, he averaged 26.0 points, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots during the week.

Through games of Sunday, January 5, Kostecka leads the Patriot League and ranks sixth in NCAA Division I in points per game (22.8), eighth in field goals made (122) and 28th in steals per game (2.27).

Kostecka and the Greyhounds play Wednesday, January 8, at Colgate University. They then return to Retiz Arena on Saturday, January 11, for a 1 p.m. game against Lafayette College.
