BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's roaring start to its shortened 2020 season was recognized once again on Tuesday morning, with five Greyhounds included among Inside Lacrosse's All-America selections for the spring.
Junior
Livy Rosenzweig and sophomore
Katie Detwiler achieved first team All-America status, while juniors
Sam Fiedler and
Kaitlyn Larsson landed on the second team and sophomore
Shay Clevenger received honorable mention accolades. The Greyhounds were a perfect 5-0 on the year, with four wins against nationally-ranked opposition, when the remainder of the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 public health threat.
Rosenzweig (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) was previously a third team Inside Lacrosse All-American in each of her first two seasons at Loyola. She supplied a team-high 27 points (10 G, 17 A) while also ranking second on the squad with 27 draw controls. Rosenzweig has managed 4+ points in 16-straight games dating back to last March; her 3.40 assists per game in 2020 was No. 3 in all of Division I. She will enter next season ranked eighth all-time at Loyola in points (245), 25th in goals (111), second in assists (134) and third in draw controls (201).
Detwiler (Devon, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) earned Patriot League Defender of the Week honors in three of Loyola's four weeks of competition in 2020. Frequently matched up the opposition's top scoring threat, she limited two Tewaaraton Watch List standouts in Johns Hopkins' Maggie Schneidereith and Florida's Shannon Kavanagh to a combined three goals and five turnovers. Detwiler totaled 10 ground balls and four caused turnovers defensively, and she also added 21 draw controls, winning a career-high six draws in back-to-back wins at Florida and Penn State.
Fiedler (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) continued her offensive breakout from last spring, leading the Greyhounds with 19 goals while also contributing five assists. Seven of her goals came in Loyola's 17-6 victory at then-No. 4 Florida, as she totaled a career-high eight points overall and went on to win US Lacrosse National Player of the Week accolades. Fiedler added seven more points the following week at Penn State, and the third of her team-high five goals at Penn in the season's final game was the 100th of her Loyola career. She has recorded at least one point in 40-straight games, and has managed at least one goal in 38 straight.
Larsson (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) shined in her first season as Loyola's starting goalkeeper, making double-digit saves in 4 of 5 contests and ranking ninth nationally in save percentage (.525). A two-time Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, Larsson finished with 53 saves and a 9.78 goals-against average in just under 300 minutes of game action. She is now 8-0 overall at Loyola, with seven of those wins coming against nationally-ranked opposition.
Clevenger (Woodstock, Md./Marriotts Ridge) quickly assumed a starting role on the backline after transferring to Loyola from Louisville prior to the 2019-20 academic year. Her 3.20 ground balls per game topped both the team and Patriot League leaderboard in 2020. She had 16 ground balls overall, earning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors after grabbing a career-best six at Penn, and she was tied with
Jillian Wilson for the team lead in caused turnovers (7).
Despite their challenging schedule, the Greyhounds ended the year ranked eighth nationally in scoring margin (+7.60), outscoring opponents by an 88-50 margin. Loyola was ranked No. 3 in the final IWLCA coaches' poll released on March 19.
