What's In The Bag? Guest Contributor: Men's Basketball's Andrew Kostecka

As we continue our What's In The Bag? Feature presented by the Pinnacle Advisory Group, we are introducing a twist with guest players to show off what they take to the course.

Fist up is one of our players' good friends and fellow student-athletes. Andrew Kostecka was a two-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree for the Loyola men's basketball team and recently wrapped-up his career as the No. 3 scorer in program history. In addition to his basketball acumen, Kostecka is also a solid golfer who spends plenty of time on the course with the members of the team.

Favorite memory of the season: Watching an 18-hole playoff between Steve (Weingroff) and Preston (Ball) come down to the wire, with Preston squeaking out the victory on a playoff hole at Country Club of Maryland. Preston had a 7-foot for birdie and the win but it lipped out, giving Steve a chance to see another hole. Steve had the same line just inches closer, but he had an exact replication on Preston's putt. With that being said, they both competed at Maidstone G.C. for the Hamptons Intercollegiate, making that my favorite memory.

How are you keeping busy this quarantine? I am rehabbing my ankle after an injury suffered in a basketball game against Navy. I am also lifting 3-4 days a week, as well as doing daily conditioning and plyometrics. During down time, I enjoy playing the piano, playing cards and board games with family, and re-watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix.

What are you going to focus on this summer to be ready in the fall? By this time next year, I hope to be an established professional basketball player, whether that is in America or Europe. I will be focusing on getting stronger and elevating my 3-point shooting percentage. On the golf course, I wish to improve distance control with my wedges and work on lag-putts to limit myself to three putts.
