BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland's men's and women's swimming and diving teams lead the H2ounds Invitational in both team races after the first session of events on Friday evening.
The women lead the six-team race with 353 points, followed by Marist in second (291). Iona is third (198) with Howard (177), Virginia Military Institute (74) and Mount St. Mary's (7) rounding out the field.
On the men's side, the Greyhounds scored 376 points, with Marist in second at 258. Howard is third (204), Iona fourth (181), VMI fifth (101) and Mount St. Mary's sixth (7).
The men's two relays both claimed victories during the first session with the 400-yard medley relay opening the meet with a strong victory.
Patrick Hayburn,
Max Verheyen,
Reid Hussey and
Caleb Kelly swan 3:16.22 to pull away for a win over the Greyhounds' second entry of
Jonathan Brooks,
Cal Bartone,
Sung Lee and
Henry Mueller that finished in 3:19.03.
Loyola's women were winners in the opening race, too, posting a time of 3:46.56 with the quartet of
Lily Mead,
Abby Andrews,
Izzy Barnette and
Charley Tulio.
Verheyen, Mueller,
Harry Hearn and Kelly won the evening's final race on the men's side, taking first in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 6:41.06.
The Greyhounds had a pair of individual wins in the men's and women's 200-yard individual medleys.
Mead won the women's version in 2:01.46 with Lauran Latham coming in second with a time of 2:06.80.
Verheyen took first in the men's race, clocking 1:48.36 to lead Loyola as it went first through fifth. Hussey was second in 1:51.57, and
Michael Gozdan finished third (1:52.65).
Matt Voight finished fourth (1:53.30), and
Tyler Stewart was fifth (1:53.98).
Tulio was four-hundredths of a second back in the 50-yard freestyle for the women, taking second in 23.94, and
Fay Moser finished third in 24.36.
Kelly,
Conor Rutigliano and
Jimmy Hayburn went two-three-four in the men's shortest sprint. Kelly was second in 20.24, Rutigliano third (20.65) and Hayburn fourth (20.66).
Elena Mugno,
Gianna Moscetti and
Haley Cisewski all finished in the top-six of the 500-yard freestyle with Mungo taking third in 5:08.05. Moscetti finished fifth (5:08.81), and Cisewski was sixth (5:09.87).
Harry Hearn led the way for the men as the Greyhounds men placed a trio in the top-five of the 500. Hearn was third in 4:33.97,
Dylan Champagne fourth (4:38.47) and
Alex Plavoukos fifth (4:37.16).
In the women's finale, Barnette, Moscetti, Cisewski and
Amanda Cradock were second in 7:45.95 for the 800-yard freestyle relay.
In diving,
Jessica Stolfi finished second in the women's 3-meter with 210.90 points, and
Mya Sharkey was third with 207.0.
Jack Still claimed silver in the men's 1-meter with 228.4, and
Dan Faunce finished fourth with 202.6.
The competition resumes Saturday morning at 10 o'clock with the second session, and the third volume begins at 3 p.m.
