BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland held host Lehigh University to 30.8 percent from the field, and the Greyhounds led the entire game for a 75-47 victory on Saturday in Stabler Arena.
Santi Aldama played just 23 minutes, but he scored 27 points and had seven rebounds. He made 11 of 18 shots from the field and 4 of 6 from 3-point range.
Luke Johnson matched his career-high with 10 points, knocking down 5 of 6 shots.
Jaylin Andrews added eight points, and
Brent Holcombe had seven as 11 Greyhounds scored in the game.
Golden Dike led Loyola with eight rebounds and six assists.
Aldama scored 19 of his points in the first half, as Loyola (3-7 overall) steadily increased its lead throughout the stanza. Andrews made two free throws with 57 seconds left in the frame to give the Greyhounds a 36-24 lead at the break.
Nic Lynch scored in the paint for Lehigh (3-8) two mintues into the second half, but a
Kenneth Jones three 52 seconds later started a 7-0 run that say Loyola go up by 21, 47-26, on a
Wade Jackson jumper with 15:01 left in regulation.
Back-to-back Aldama three at 12:20 and 11:49 pushed the lead over 20 for the rest of the game.
The Greyhounds and Mountain Hawks play the second of a two-game set on Sunday, February 21, at Loyola's Reitz Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
