BALTIMORE –
Isaiah Hart scored his 1,000
th career point on Sunday night, becoming the 40
th player in Loyola University Maryland men's basketball history to do so, but Lehigh University beat the Greyhounds, 76-72.
Hart tallied his 1,000
th point on a driving layup with 9:43 to play in the second half, pulling Loyola within four points at that point.
The Greyhounds would get the game to a three-point margin on four occasions after that, and they were within two twice in the last 30 seconds.
Santi Aldama, who had 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead all players, had a traditional 3-point play with 29 seconds left in regulation, but the Mountain Hawks made 1 of 2 at the line two seconds later.
The Greyhounds turned the ball over on their next possession and Lehigh went to the free-throw line again with 12 second left. This time, Evan Taylor made both attempts, and the Mountain Hawks were up five, 74-69.
After a timeout,
Kenneth Jones made a three for Loyola to cut the margin to a pair, but a foul was called on the Greyhounds in a deadball situation, and Taylor made both free throws to provide the final margin.
Loyola led in the early-going of the game with
Jaylin Andrews put the Greyhounds up five, 24-19, with a layup at 9:55. Lehigh, however, scored the next nine points to take a lead it would hold the rest of the game.
Aldama's 18 rebound are tied for sixth-most in school single-game history. His double-double was his sixth this season and eighth of his 21-game career. He also had four blocked shots and two steals in the game.
Andrews and Jones both had 10 points, and
Golden Dike added nine; Hart and
Luke Johnson both had eight points, and they combined for seven steals.
The Greyhounds play a midweek game on Wednesday, February 24, when they host American University at 7 p.m.
