BALTIMORE – The Tewaaraton Foundation announced 57 initial watch list candidates for this year's women's lacrosse Tewaaraton Award on Thursday, with Loyola University Maryland seniors
Sam Fiedler and
Livy Rosenzweig both receiving recognition.
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. The watch lists include the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for this year's award.
Both Fiedler and Rosenzweig are included on the initial watch list for a second-consecutive season, while Rosenzweig was also a Top-25 Semifinalist for the award back in 2019. The duo lead the Greyhounds in points, with Fiedler totaling 16 goals and seven assists through the season's first five games, while Rosenzweig has supplied 11 goals and 11 assists on the year.
Fiedler has recorded multiple goals in every game this season, with a season-high seven points (5 G, 2 A) in Loyola's 18-6 win over Villanova last Wednesday. In addition to her 23 points, she has chipped in seven ground balls and a team-high seven caused turnovers. Fiedler dished out a career-best four assists in yesterday's 9-6 victory over Georgetown, and the 2019 NCAA statistical champion in shot percentage is once again among the national leaders at 64.0 percent this season.
The Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and a two-time IWLCA All-American (first team in 2019), Rosenzweig has totaled 267 points (122 G, 145 A) and 223 draw controls through her first 52 collegiate appearances. She leads the team with 22 draw controls this year, and has recorded multiple points in all five contests. Rosenzweig recorded her fourth-career nine point game at Villanova while scoring a career-best six goals, and she added seven points (4 G, 3 A) in last Saturday's 21-4 win over American to begin Patriot League play.
The Tewaaraton Award has been given annually since 2001, when Loyola head coach
Jen Adams became the first winner following her senior season at Maryland. Further additions to the watch list will be announced as the season progresses.
Loyola's originally scheduled weekend game at Navy has been postponed due to restriction of movement at the Naval Academy. The Greyhounds have added a home game against Drexel as a replacement, scheduled for 12 p.m. Sunday at Ridley Athletic Complex. The schedule remains subject to change should a Patriot League opponent become available. Check LoyolaGreyhounds.com for the latest updates.
