GREENVILLE, N.C. –
Evan Brown and
Brandon Berry both registered top-five finishes individually to help the Loyola University Maryland men's golf team finish third overall at the ECU Intercollegiate.
Brown shot 4-under for the tournament to take second behind medalist Zack Taylor of Coastal Carolina, while Berry had three rounds of par or under to finish 1-under and tied for fourth.
As a team, the Greyhounds were 5-over Tuesday on the 6,755-yard, par-72 Brook Valley Country Club course. Loyola finished the tournament 15-over, behind only Coastal Carolina (+1) and Appalachian State (+7). The Greyhounds were a shot better than host East Carolina and Maryland, four ahead of Boston College and VCU.
Brown opened the day in first place but three bogeys on the front nine Tuesday dropped him to third at the turn. He shot even-par on the back to overtake Maryland's Dhaivat Pandya by two shots.
Berry opened the day with bogeys on the second and fifth holes, but a birdie at the par-4 seventh brought him to level for the tournament. He then strung together 10-straight pars before birding the par-3 18
th hole to finish his day with an even-par 72. Berry finished the tournament leading all players in par-4 scoring (3.92)
Carlo Pizzano made the biggest upward move on Tuesday, shooting 4-under 68 to rise from 47
th after 18 holes to a tie for 26
th overall at 6-over for the tournament. He had a bogey-free day Tuesday with four birdies mixed in.
Matt Malits and
Nick Mejia rounded out the Greyhounds' scoring by finishing tied for 56
th and 62
nd, respectively.
Brett Inserra moved up five spots on Tuesday after shooting 2-over 74 to finish tied for 52
nd as an individual.
The Greyhounds will stay in North Carolina for their next tournament when they head to Chapel Hill for the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at the UNC Finley Course.
