CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –
Brandon Berry was the lone Loyola University Maryland player under par in Sunday's second round, leading the Greyhounds to a tie for 11
th overall at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate at the University of North Carolina's Finley Course.
Berry was 2-over during the middle 18 of the tournament through 12 holes after double bogeys at the fourth and 11
th holes, but he eagled the 564-yard, par-5 13
th hole to get back to even for the round. He then birdied the 469-yard, par-4 15
th hole. Three pars to close his round gave him a 36-hole total of 1-over following Sunday's 1-under to tie for 19
th overall.
He is a stroke ahead of
Evan Brown who shot 3-over in the second round, after making his turn at 1-under, to tie for 22
nd.
The Greyhounds shot 8-over in the second round that started during the early afternoon after Saturday's first round was completed following storm delays yesterday. Loyola is two shots back of James Madison and three behind Virginia Tech while it is tied for 11
th with Georgia State. Host North Carolina leads the tournament at 15-under.
Brett Inserra and
Carlo Pizzano are tied for 55
th after 36 holes, and
Matt Malits is tied for 79
th at 13-over.
Inserra had his second eagle in as many days at the 560-yard, par-5 third hole to help him shoot 1-under on the front nine. Pizzano shot 2-over 74 for the day, while Inserra finished 4-over.
Playing as an individual,
Nick Mejia had five birdies during the second round's front nine, including on his first three holes, but he slipped to 8-over on the back to 36 holes tied for 41
st at 5-over.
The tournament will conclude with the final 18 holes on Monday.
