Berry Leads Posts Top-15 Finish As Golf Takes 11th

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Brandon Berry shot his second-straight sub-par round Monday to finish the Tar Heel Intercollegiate tied for 15th as the Loyola University Maryland golf team was 11th overall at the event.

Berry had five birdies on Monday at the 7,242-yard, par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course and finished the final 18 at 2-under 70. He shot 1-under for the tournament and was in a group tied for 15th.

As a team, the Greyhounds were 9-over on Monday and 26-over for the tournament. Host North Carolina won the event at 28-under, one of three teams to shoot sub-par for the three rounds.

Evan Brown ended the event in a tie for 20th, shooting an even-par 72 on Monday. He got through the more difficult back nine – where there Greyhounds began on a shotgun start – even with a birdie on the par-5, 560-yard 17th hole, and he then dropped to 2-under with birdies on the second and fourth holes. He played his final five holes at 2-over, however, and came back to even.

Matt Malits was 3-over Monday and placed 80th at 16-over for the tournament, while Carlo Pizzano was a shot better overall to tie for 77th after shooting 8-over Monday. Brett Inserra finished 85th overall.

Nick Mejia played as an individual and finished tied for 50th at 9-over after shooting 4-over Monday.

The Greyhounds will take the next weekend off before resuming competition April 12 and 13 at the West Virginia University's Mountaineer Invitational.
