BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its first weekly awards for women's rowing on Wednesday afternoon, with Loyola University Maryland's varsity four crew chosen as the conference's Boat of the Week.
Theresa Martin,
Jenna Barrett,
Emily Hunt,
Claire Volz and coxswain
Sarah Hofstetter are recognized after earning a hard-fought victory over Robert Morris and George Mason in Sunday's tri-team regatta on the Occoquan River.
The Greyhounds were neck-and-neck with Robert Morris through 750m, but surged past the Colonials down the final stretch to ultimately win the race by over 10 seconds. Loyola completed the course in 7:59.59 to beat out both Robert Morris (8:10.47) and the host Patriots (8:34.74).
This is the program's first weekly award since joining the conference for the 2013-14 academic year. Loyola's Boat of the Week honorees also competed in the varsity eight races both on Sunday and in Saturday's season-opening regatta at Washington College.
The Greyhounds are back on the water this weekend, traveling to Washington, D.C., to face Catholic on Saturday.
