Mid-Game Run By Mountain Hawks Sends Men’s Lacrosse To Loss

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Kevin Lindley scored with 54 seconds left in the first half to pull No. 10 Loyola University Maryland within a goal, 4-3, of host Lehigh University, but the Mountain Hawks would tally a goal four seconds before the half, sparking a 4-0 run that would run more nearly two-thirds of the third quarter en route to a 10-6 Patriot League victory.

Christian Mule' tallied that goal for Lehigh off a Tommy Schelling assist, and the 13th-ranked Mountain Hawks led 5-3 at the break.

Schelling and Andrew Eichelberger scored at 13:48 and 9:43 for Lehigh, and Mike Sisselberger then won the faceoff and scored 13 seconds after Eichelberger's tally to put the Mountain Hawks in front, 8-3.

Lindley got one back from Loyola off a Ryan McNulty assist at 6:34, and the Greyhounds then scored early in the fourth quarter to pull within three.

After a Sam Shafer save, Cam Wyers brought the ball across the midline and threw to McNulty down low for a goal 1:32 into the final frame of regulation, and it was 8-5 Lehigh.

The Mountain Hawks quickly responded, however, with Cole Kirst scoring 29 seconds after McNulty to push the advantage back to four.

Liam Bateman stepped into a shot from 12-plus yards and scored off a Peter Swindell assist with 9:16 to once again get Loyola back within three, but that was the goal the Greyhounds would score.

Lehigh had a 46-29 advantage in shots and a 48-24 margin in ground balls in the game.

Swindell had a team-high three points on two first-quarter goals and an assist, while Lindley scored twice. McNulty posted a goal and an assist to go with two ground balls, and Matt Higgins had a career-high three caused turnovers.

Loyola continues Patriot League action on Saturday, March 13, when it hosts Lafayette College at 2 p.m.
