BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. –
Evan Brown is fourth individually, and the Loyola University Maryland golf team is fifth, after the first two rounds of the Mountaineer Invitational at the Pete Dye Golf Club.
Brown shot matching rounds of 1-over 73 at the 7,308-yard, par-72 course that has been ranked as one fo the 20 best nationally by
GolfWeek and in the top 70 of
Golf Digest's prestigious top-100.
As a team, the Greyhounds are 27-over, two shots behind Chattanooga, which is fourth, and three back of Georgia Southern, the No. 35-ranked team in the nation.
At 2-over fort he tournament, Brown is two shots back of Connecticut's Caleb Manuel for third. West Virginia's Mark Goetz leads the tournament at 5-under.
Loyola finished the first 18 holes in third place after a 7-over 295 as a team, but scores rose across the board in the afternoon, and the Greyhounds shot 20-over 308 down the stretch. The course played to an average of 78.36 shots during the two rounds Monday.
Brett Inserra opened Monday with a 2-over 74 and is 19
th after 36 holes at 8-over.
Brandon Berry was 3-over in the first round and 9-over for the tournament to sit in a tie for 20
th.
Carlo Pizzano shot 1-over in the first round and is now tied for 31
st at 11-over, while
Turner Foster is 20-over and tied for 68
th following a 7-over 79 in the second round.
Matt Malits, who is playing as an individual, is 66
th at 18-over.
