KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Loyola University Maryland senior midfielder
Justin Ingram was selected first team All-Atlantic Region, while teammates
Sam Brown and
Kelan Swales earned a spot on the second team as United Soccer Coaches announced its all-region recipients for the 2021 spring season on Tuesday afternoon.
All three Greyhounds are recognized on the regional level for the first time in their collegiate careers. Ingram and Brown combined for half of the team's 10 goals during the abbreviated spring campaign, while Swales led Loyola and the Patriot League with four assists.
Ingram (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) totaled three goals and three assists while starting all six games in the midfield. Previously honored as the Patriot League's Midfielder of the Year, he scored Loyola's first goal in a 2-1 comeback victory over Lehigh, and he factored in both goals during a key 2-0 road win at Navy. Ingram also supplied a goal and an assist in Loyola's Patriot League semifinal matchup vs. American. He has registered 20 points (6 G, 8 A) in 25 games since joining the program as a transfer from Virginia prior to the 2019 season.
Brown (Media, Pa./Penncrest) was previously voted as the Patriot League's Offensive Player of the Year last month. He finished the spring with six points (2 G, 2 A), scoring in both regular season games against American and recording the primary assist on
Loc San's double-overtime winner vs. Lehigh. Brown also added an assist in the Greyhounds' victory at Navy. He has made 60 appearances in his first four seasons at Loyola, earning starts in 47 of those contests and totaling 24 points overall (8 G, 8 A).
Swales (Leeds, England/Cardinal Heenan Catholic) made an immediate impact in his first season with the program after joining as a transfer from Appalachian State, as his 0.67 assists per game ranked seventh overall in Division I. He picked up assists in each of Loyola's first three games and added another helper in the Patriot League semifinals. He was previously honored as a first team All-Patriot League performer, and he joined Ingram on the conference's All-Tournament Team.
Loyola finished the spring with an overall record of 3-2-1, winning the Patriot League South division and advancing to the conference semifinals for a fifth-consecutive season. This is the fourth-straight season that the Greyhounds have received multiple all-region honorees under head coach
Steve Nichols.
