KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Loyola University Maryland senior
Evan Brown is tied for third after the first round of competition at the NCAA Kingston Springs Regional.
Brown shot a 4-under 67 with five birdies and an eagle at the 7,107-yard, par-71 Golf Club of Tennessee. His only blemish of the day came on the third hole – his 12
th of the day – when he had a triple-bogey seven.
He opened the morning with a par on the 10
th hole, his first, before eagling the 551-yard par-5 11
th hole. A birdie on the 13
th hole got him to 3-under before birdies on the 17
th and 18
th holes lowered his score to 5-under.
Brown's triple on the third hole brought him back to 2-under, but he immediately bounced back with a birdle on the par-3 fourth hole, and he finished the round with four pars wrapped around a birdie on the seventh.
He is tied with Kent State's Will Kurtz at 4-under, two shots back of the leader, Vanderbilt's Reid Davenport and one shy of N.C. State's Maximillian Steinlechner.
As a team, the Greyhounds are 11
th out of 13 teams with a combined 13-over 297 on Monday. They are three shots back of Texas San Antonio and four ahead of Connecticut.
Brandon Berry is tied for 47
th after making the turn at 5-over and was 6-over after 12 holes. He then birdied the fifth, sixth and seventh holes to get to 3-over 74 for the round.
Brett Inserra shot 5-over 76 to tie for 59
th, and
Carlo Pizzano is tied for 69
th after a 9-over 80.
Nick Mejia finished the day tied for 74
th at 13-over.
The Greyhounds will start the second round at 8:55 a.m. (CDT).
