Sophie Brenner had 17 kills and 15 digs Saturday afternoon as the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team closed the Old Dominion University Invitational with a 25-16, 25-23, 25-15 sweep of the host Monarchs.
Abby Hamilton added 14 kills and eight digs, while
Katie Forsythe had a match-high 22 digs.
Ashley Dwyer dished out 21 assists, while
Kacy Sekunda had 15.
Loyola (2-1 overall) finished second at the tournament, faltering only in a season-opening match against West Virginia University. Hamilton and Forsythe earned All-Tournament honors. The former had 35 kills (3.89 per set) and 23 digs (2.56) in the three matches, while latter posted 67 digs (7.44) for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds opened the match Saturday by hitting .273 in the first while holding Old Dominion (1-2) to a -.063 mark with only six kills in the opening frame.
Old Dominion tied the second set at 22-22 after a timeout and a Loyola service error, but the Greyhounds quickly sided out with a Hamilton swing for a kill.
Adara Kellogg then served an ace to give Loyola set-point before the Monarchs got back within one on a Greyhounds attack error. Sekunda, however, put the set away with a kill to give Loyola a 2-0 lead.
Loyola then posted 18 kills in the final set to cruise to the win.
The Greyhounds return to the Baltimore area for four matches in tournament play next weekend when they head to the Towson Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
