TOKYO – Loyola University Maryland alumna McKenzie Coan won her second medal of the 2020 Paralympic Games on Tuesday, taking silver in the women's 100-meter freestyle (S7 classification), after bringing home a gold Sunday in the 400-meter freestyle.
Coan again battled Italy's Giulia Terzi in the Tuesday's final, but this time her Italian counterpart reached the wall first.
Terzi set a Paralympics Record with a time of 1:09.21 with Coan a second behind at 1:10.22.
Coan was third after the opening 50 meters behind Terzi and fellow American Mallory Weggemann, but her split of 36.18 over the final 50 drew her into second place.
Later Tuesday (9:38 a.m., Eastern time), Coan will swim in the preliminaries of the 50-meter freestyle (S8), and current Greyhounds swimmer
McClain Hermes will hit the water in the preliminaries of the 100-meter breaststroke (S11).
