Nation's Capital Trip

  • Loyola University Maryland makes the short trip south to Washington, D.C., for a trio of games at Dig The District.
  • First, the Greyhounds will play Maryland Eastern Shore in a 11 a.m. match on Friday, September 10, at George Washington. Loyola then takes on the Colonials on their home court that night at 7 o'clock.
  • The next day, the Greyhounds close the tournament at nearby Georgetown with a 1 p.m. match against the Hoyas.

All-Tournament x2

  • Abby Hamilton has earned All-Tournament honors at each of the Greyhounds first two tournaments this season, picking up the recognition at both the ODU and Towson Invitationals.
  • Through seven matches and 23 sets, Hamilton has more than three times as many attack attempts (305) as all but one player on the team (Sophie Brenner (105). Her 305 attack attempts are sixth in NCAA Division I, as are her 13.26 swings per set.
  • Hamilton has connected for 90 kills in the seven matches, good for 3.91 per set. Her 90 kills lead all Patriot League players and are No. 34 in the NCAA.

Freshman Dishing Out Assists

  • Freshman Kacy Sekunda has moved into the role of the Greyhounds' primary setter, posting 166 assists through seven matches with an average of 8.30 per set. She is fourth in the Patriot League in assists per set and also is hitting .327 with 23 kills on 49 attempts.
  • She opened last weekend's Towson Invitational with 34 assists in a three-set win over Princeton, and she then had 31 assists, 19 digs and eight kills versus the host Tigers.
  • In the fourth and final match of the Greyhounds' stint at the tournament, Sekunda had a to-date career-best 41 assists in a three-set sweep of Morgan State.

Climb Toward 1,000

  • Abby Hamilton opens the 2021 season needing 98 kills to reach the 1,000 mark for her career in just over two seasons (including the abbreviated 2020 campaign that included just six matches). Seven matches into the year, she is eight away from hitting the plateau, going into Dig The District with 992.
  • The native of Colgate, Wisconsin, has averaged 3.40 kills per set in 74 career matches with a career-best 3.71 in 2019 when she finished fourth in the Patriot League in the stat category; this year, she is averaging 3.91 per set.
  • During her career, she has logged 10 or more kills in 60 of 74 outings with 10 of those contests of nine or fewer coming during her freshman year of 2018.

League-Leading Libero

  • Katie Forsythe has been the class of the Patriot League's liberos since stepping onto the court as a freshman in 2018, and by just about any measure, she has been the class of most liberos nationwide.
  • After three seasons plus three matches, Forsythe is averaging 6.03, a mark good for No. 3 in NCAA Division I history, and she is the NCAA's active career leader in that stat category.
  • The three-time Patriot League Libero of the Year and All-Patriot League First Team honoree has totaled 1,758 digs in her career that has stretched just 13 matches over two seasons (a total of 74), ranking her second all-time at Loyola and fourth in Patriot League history.
  • She has finished in the top four of Division I players in digs per set during all three of her collegiate seasons, ranking fourth in 2018, third in 2019 and fourth in 2020. Her averages of 5.86, 6.17 and 6.04 are the three highest in Patriot League history.
  • She was the first player in Loyola history to earn American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors, doing so in 2019 when she was also named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. She was then invited to Colorado Springs for Team USA tryouts following that season.
  • Forsythe became the fastest player in Loyola and Patriot League history to reach 1,000 digs in a career, doing so in 44 matches whens he hit the plateau on September 22, 2019. She set conference and school records that year with 697 digs in a season.

Two Better Than Five

  • Loyola's two most-recent full seasons (2018 and 2019) produced 15 Patriot League victories during the regular-season and two trips to the conference championships. In the Greyhounds first five years in the League, starting in 2013, they won just 13 conference matches.

Preseason Picks

  • Katie Forsythe was named to the seven-player Preseason All-Patriot League Team for the third-straight year, and the Greyhounds were picked to finish fifth in the conference by a vote of league coaches.

Meet The Freshmen

  • Loyola's four freshmen – Sophie Brenner, Maya Dudockin, Rose McDermott and Kacy Sekunda – saw their first collegiate action at the ODU Invitational in Norfolk, each playing in at least two sets.
  • Brenner is third on the team with 2.46 kills per set while also averaging 2.85 digs. Sekunda leads the team and is fourth in the Patriot League in assists at 8.30 per set, and Dudockin ranks seventh in the conference in blocks per set (0.94) and tied for ninth in hitting percentage (.255).
