Laura Latham,
Lily Mead and
Patrick Hayburn all won two individual races on Wednesday as the Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams had split results in a midday meet against Towson University.
The men's team beat the Tigers, 168-123, while the Towson women were 179-120 winners.
Latham won the last two individual races of the day for the women, taking top honors in a tight 100-yard butterfly race, edging teammate Kaitlin Witkop 58.14-58.16. Latham them came back in the 200-yard individual medley to win in 2:11.00, edging
Elizabeth Walsh who was second in 2:12.08.
Mead drove through the water for a win in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 24.28, and she came back for a victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.65).
Hayburn, meanwhile, captured wins in the 100-yard backstroke (50.04) and 200-yard backstroke (1:52.06), and he swam the third leg on the Greyhounds' winning 400-yard freestyle relay.
Dylan Champagne (1,000-yard freestyle, 9:43.08),
Max Verheyen (200-yard freestyle, 1:43.62),
Caleb Kelly (50-yard freestyle, 20.73),
Greg Sifferman (200-yard breaststroke, 2:07.30),
Alex Plavoukos (500-yard freestyle, 4:42.35) and
Tyler Stewart (200-yard individual medley, 1:54.35) were also winners for the Greyhounds on the men's side.
Fay Moser took a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.61 for the women.
The Greyhounds men opened the race with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as
Patrick Hayburn, Verheyen,
Jimmy Hayburn and Kelly finished in 1:30.46.
Towson's lead did not last long, however, as Loyola went in front, 20-14, after the first individual race where Champagne, Plavoukos (9:47.68) and
Jonah Goodman (9:52.64) went one-two-three in the 1,000 freestyle.
Verheyen added to the lead with a win in the 200-yard freestyle, an event where Loyola just missed out on a top-five sweep. Sifferman finished second (1:44.33),
Reid Hussey fourth (1:44.48) and
Brett Legambi fifth (1:45.11).
Patrick Hayburn continued the event winning streak in the 100 backstroke where he was followed by
Casey Brown in third (52.21) and
Jonathan Brooks (52.43) in fifth.
Michael Gozdan (57.80),
Jared Copeland (59.21) and Joey Zellner (59.60) were second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke, and the Greyhounds had the same place finishes in the next event.
Harry Hearn was second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:53.22) where he was followed by Stewart (1:53.91) and
Ryan Atwood (1:55.54).
Tyler Zarzucki finished second in the 1-meter diving with 158.02 points, and Jimmy Hapburn took fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.37.
Hussey and Zellner were third and fourth, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 47.28 and 47.40.
Patrick Hayburn's win capped the 200-yard backstroke where Loyola took the top three spots. Brown was second (1:52.47), and Verheyen third (1:53.23).
Sifferman edged
Zach Eisenmann 2:07.30-2:07.78 to win the 200-yard breaststroke, and
Josh Walker completed the one-two-three sweep for Loyola with a third-place finish in 2:10.53.
Plavoukos earned the win in the 500-yard freestyle, beating Champagne by 29-hundredts of a second, 4:42.35-4:42.64. Goodman was third in 4:44.82.
Hearn was the Greyhounds' top finisher in the 100-yard butterfly, taking second in 49.50, while Copeland was fourth (50.86) and Brooks fifth (51.31).
Loyola had four of the top five finishers in the 200-yard individual medley, led by Stewart's win. Verheyen was second (1:54.49),
Matt Voight fourth (1:55.87) and Hussey fifth (1:57.82).
Kelly, Brooks and the Hayburn brothers closed out the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, clocking a time of 3:03.24 to edge Towson's 3:03.73.
In the women's meet,
Alison Prushinski, Mead,
Izzy Barnette and
Charley Tulio were second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:47.07) to open the races.
Elena Mugno then led a two-three-four-five finish for the Greyhounds in the 1,000-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 10:44.14 and was followed by
Gianna Moscetti (10:56.81), Carolina Suarez (11:09.46) and
McClain Hermes (13:13.32).
Lauren Joyce and
Alana Andress took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle relay with times of 1:58.12 and 1:59.39. Prushinski (58.76),
Maggie Manchester (59.75) and
Elizabeth Walsh (59.89) were second, third and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Witkop finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.84) and was followed closely by
Abby Andrews (1:09.21).
Allison Wade finished fifth in 1:10.16.
Molly Davis took fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.03),a nd Latham was fifth (2:11.40).
Tulio and Moser followed Mead's first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with fourth (24.55) and fifth (24.74) finishes, and
Mya Sharkey took fifth in both the 1-meter (213.9) and 3-meter (231.37) diving events.
Moser's win in the 100-yard freestyle was followed by Prushinski in third (54.14) and Tulio in fifth (54.99). Joyce took second (2:08.67) in the 200-yard backstroke, and Mugno was fifth (2:12.26).
Mead led the way in the 200-yard breaststroke with the win, and Wade was third in 2:30.03. Moscetti finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.91), followed by
Kylie Preihs finished fifth in 5:24.24.
The Greyhounds close out their dual-meet schedule on Saturday, January 29, when they host Mount St. Mary's University.
