Ryan McNulty was named to the
Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America First Team, one of five Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse players to be recognized by the publication going into the 2022 season.
In addition to McNulty earning the long-stick midfielder position on the list,
Cam Wyers was tabbed a third-team defender, while attacker
Kevin Lindley, short-stick defensive midfielder
Payton Rezanka and faceoff specialist
Bailey Savio were acknowledged on the honorable mention.
McNulty enters the 2022 season ranked seventh all-time at Loyola in career caused turnovers (70) and 13
th with 191 ground balls. He will be a team captain for the fourth time as he plays in his sixth season for the Greyhounds. Last year, he earned All-Patriot League First Team and All-America honors for the second time as he finished tied for second on the team with 19 caused turnovers and third with 46 ground balls. He also continued to be a top transition player while he scored four goals and assisted on six more. Through his career with the Greyhounds, in which he has played in 58 games, he has 12 goals and 12 assists.
Wyers was one of the top cover defenders in college lacrosse again last season and picked up All-Patriot League recognition for the second time, his first time landing on the first team along with his first All-America honors.
He was the Greyhounds' top non-faceoff player with 59 ground balls, a career-high, and he matched McNulty for second on the team with 19 caused turnovers. Wyers also contributed to transition play with a goal and six assists during the year. A three-year starter through his first three seasons at Loyola, Wyers has 93 career ground balls and 41 caused turnovers, good for 14
th all-time at the school.
Lindley is a two-time USILA All-American who set the Loyola all-time scoring record last season and sits at 158 goals for his career going into the year. Last season, Lindley earned his second All-America honorable mention and All-Patriot League First Team nods after leading Loyola and the conference with 42 goals scored.
Rezanka has been one of the Greyhounds' top short-stick defensive midfielders since joining the program as a freshman in 2019. He had career-high of 15 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls as a junior in 2021, and he also had two goals and an assist in transition as Loyola led the nation in clearing percentage (.909).
Savio enters the year as one of the nation's top faceoff specialists and is the Loyola all-time record holder in ground balls (349), while he is second in career faceoffs won at the school with 610, 99 behind his older brother Graham's 709. The younger Savio was an All-Patriot League Second Team honoree a year ago and during the season set the conference's single-game record with 18 ground balls against Rutgers.
The Greyhounds will open the 2022 season in less than a month when they head to the University of Maryland for a non-conference game on Saturday, February 12.
