Transition Offense Helps Volleyball Sweep Crusaders

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland had 31 of its 50 kills in transition after digs on Friday night to win for the fifth time in six matches with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-18 sweep of College of the Holy Cross in Reitz Arena.

Sophie Brenner led the Greyhounds (8-9 overall, 6-4 Patriot League) with 14 kills, hitting .257 in the process. Her kill total matched her season-high numbers for the second match in a row.

Ten of her kills came in transition as she did not have an error in 21 swings that came after Greyhounds digs.

Megan Bukala added 10 kills, while Lauren Link and Cecylia Guye each had nine.

Katie Forsythe totaled 17 digs, 11 coming in the third set. Eight of her digs led to Loyola kills.

Ashley Dwyer led the Loyola offense with 42 assists, and she added 11 digs as one of three Greyhounds with 10 or more. Link had 10 digs, as well.

Holy Cross looked poised to tie the match at 1-1, taking a 16-11 lead on a Gracyn Benck kill. The Greyhounds, however, sided out with a Brenner kill, and they went on to score 14 of the last 18 points in the set to take a 2-0 lead into the third.

Loyola will be back in Reitz Arena on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Colgate Univesrity at four o'clock.
