BALTIMORE – Colgate University dealt the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team its first loss in Reitz Arena this season, edging the Greyhounds, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action.
After neither the Raiders (18-4 overall, 10-1 Patriot League), nor Greyhounds (8-10, 6-5), won a set by more than three points in the first three, Colgate hit .464 and sided out iat a 76 percent success rate in the fourth to claim the match win.
Loyola's team defense kept it in the game early as the Greyhounds had 86 total digs with four players reaching double figures.
Katie Forsythe had a match-best 25 digs, while
Rose McDermott chipped in 15 and
Ashley Dwyer and
Lauren Link each tallied 13.
The third set had six lead changes and 14 occasions where the score was tied before Loyola broke a 21-21 tie with a
Cecylia Guye kill and two more from
Megan Bukala. Sophie Thompson responded with a kill for the Raiders on Loyola's first set-point attempt, drawing Colgate within a pair, 24-22, but
Ashley Dwyer had a tip for a kill to stretch the match to a fourth set.
Lauren Link led all players with 15 kills, while Bukala and
Sophie Brenner each had 12 for the Greyhounds, and
Adara Kellogg added nine. Dwyer had 40 assists and two aces to go with her 40 assists.
The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena on Wednesday night to host American University at 7 o'clock.
