Roman Leads Golf After First Day At Hamptons Intercollegiate

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. – Jackson Roman birdied his last of 36 holes Monday to start the 2022 Hamptons Intercollegiate at the Maidstone Club with rounds of 74-73, leading the Loyola University Maryland golf team on a day when winds blew consistently over 20 miles per hour on the far tip of Long Island.

Roman had five birdies and an eagle during his 36 holes on Monday and is tied for eighth overall in the tournament the Greyhounds are hosting for the third time. He finished with a pair of birdies during his final six holes in the second round, rolling in a three on the 18th green to finish his 3-over for the day.

Virginia, which enters the week ranked No. 5 nationally by GolfWeek, leads the team event at 1-over par 577. Six groups did not complete their second round due to darkness. Those competitors will finish starting at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

Carlo Pizzano closed his second round with a birdie on the 18th hole to card his second-straight 5-over 77 for the Greyhounds, and he is tied for 35th.
