EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. –
Jackson Roman birdied his last of 36 holes Monday to start the 2022 Hamptons Intercollegiate at the Maidstone Club with rounds of 74-73, leading the Loyola University Maryland golf team on a day when winds blew consistently over 20 miles per hour on the far tip of Long Island.
Roman had five birdies and an eagle during his 36 holes on Monday and is tied for eighth overall in the tournament the Greyhounds are hosting for the third time. He finished with a pair of birdies during his final six holes in the second round, rolling in a three on the 18
th green to finish his 3-over for the day.
Virginia, which enters the week ranked No. 5 nationally by
GolfWeek, leads the team event at 1-over par 577. Six groups did not complete their second round due to darkness. Those competitors will finish starting at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
Carlo Pizzano closed his second round with a birdie on the 18
th hole to card his second-straight 5-over 77 for the Greyhounds, and he is tied for 35
th.
James Rico is tied for 49
th at 16-over;
Garrett Kessler, who is playing in his first event for Loyola, sits tied for 56
th (+22),
Trent Geritz is 59
th (+25) and
Mike Crowley (+27) is 60
th.
Play will continue with the final round on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m.
