EAST HAMPTONS, N.Y. –
Carlo Pizzano and
Jackson Roman each had top-20 finishes at the Hamptons Intercollegiate, capping a day in which the Loyola University Maryland golf team posted its best team score of the tournament.
The Greyhounds shot 308 in Tuesday's final round, amidst rain and sustained winds of more than 20 miles per hour at the Maidstone Course on the eastern tip of Long Island, to finish ninth at the event they hosted for the third time.
Virginia, which entered the week ranked No. 5 nationally in
Golfweek's ratings, won the tournament for the second time.
Pizzano was at 3-over when he made the turn to the course's back nine on Tuesday, but he bogeyed 10 and 11 to drop to 5-over. He quickly righted himself and strung together five pars in a row before birding the 17
th hole and posting another par on the 18
th.
He finished his day at 4-over and tied for 16
th in the field.
Roman, who had Loyola's lowest scores in Monday's two rounds, finished tied for 18
th overall.
Garrett Kessler finished Monday birdie-par-eagle to post his best round as a Greyhounds player, carding a 4-over 76. His hole-out eagle on the final hole helped him finish tied for 43
rd overall.
James Rico had a birdie on 17 to get back to 5-over for the day, and he tied for 33
rd overall, while
Mike Crowley and
Trent Geritz tied for 57
th.
Loyola will continue its pay on the Eastern Seaboard next week when it takes part in the Georgetown Intercollegiate at Liberty National Golf Course, the Jersey City course that has hosted multiple PGA Tour FedEx Playoff events and the 2017 Presidents Cup.
