BALTIMORE –
Matt Cardano and
Ryan Boland reached the final of their second fall tournament, this time coming in second, while
Oliver Davey and
Nick Haggar took sixth to lead the Loyola University Maryland men's tennis team at this weekend's Greyhounds Classic at the McClure Tennis Center.
Cardano and Boland won the Loyola Invitational two weeks ago, and on Sunday, they competed against a Howard University pair for the Greyhounds Classic title. The Bison duo came out on top, 2-1, winning the doubles with Cardano taking his singles match. Cardano and Boland won their first three matches of the weekend to advance to the final.
Davey and Haggar finished the weekend with a 2-2 record, winning once on Friday and again on Saturday before falling in the fifth-place match to a different Howard side, 2-1. The Loyola pair won the doubles point, 6-3, but Howard came back to win both singles matches.
Trevor Girandola and
Nick Lawliss won two matches on Saturday to reach the consolation bracket final before losing in the ninth-place match, 3-0, to a Coppin State team.
George Bulger and
Dylan Koziol won the 13
th-place match against a Rider University duo, taking the doubles point, 7-5, and then winning both singles contests in straight-sets.
Two other Loyola teams –
Bennett LaLonde/
Gustavo Rotundo and
Gilberto Rivera-Gordillo/
Jorge Quintana – made it to the 11
th-place match, although they did not play out the match on Sunday.
