Swimming & Diving Teams Log Four More Top-Four Finishes At Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. ­– The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving teams had three individuals and a relay team post top-four finishes on Thursday night as the Greyhounds completed the second day of the Patriot League Championships.
 
Through seven scored finals, the men's team is fourth with 160 points, and the women are seventh with 89.
 
In addition to the two top-three finishes, the Greyhounds set two school records during the night session.
 
Henry Mueller broke an 11-year old school record in the men's 500-yard freestyle. He qualified for the second heat of the finals with a time of 4:27.69 in the morning session before coming back to swim 4:24.69 in the night's final for a ninth-place finish. His time bested the February 2011 record of 4:26.08 by Brennan Morris.
 
In the day's final race, Patrick Hayburn, Max Verheyen, Reid Hussey and Caleb Kelly earned a podium finish with a school-record time of 3:13.05 in the men's 400-yard medley relay.
 
Lily Mead swam her two best times of the season on Thursday, going 2:00.24 in the preliminaries and 2:00.34 in the final to take second place behind Army West Point's Meghan Cole.
 
Caleb Kelly went 20.00 even in the final of the 50-yard freestyle, his fastest time of the year, dropping 29-hundredths of a second from his preliminary time to move up to third after qualifying fifth.
 
Max Verheyen dropped his 2021-2022 best time in the 200-yard individual medley to 1:46.72, finishing fourth in the race on Thursday.
 
Jimmy Hayburn put points on the board for the men's team with a 12th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 20.54. Elizabeth Walsh scored for the Greyhounds, as well, in the 200 individual medley, taking 15th in 2:06.14.
 
Alex Palvoukos joined Mueller as a point-scorer in the 500-yard freestyle, taking 12th in 4:31.57.
 
Mead, Abby Andrews, Izzy Barnette and Charley Tulio took sixth in the women's 400-yard medley relay, finishing in 3:47.74.
 
Elena Mungo and Gianna Moscetti were 26th and 30th in the preliminary races of the women's 500-yard freestyle with times of 5:07.48 and 5:08.54. Dylan Champagne was 27th in the men's version of the race, swimming 4:40.25.
 
Reid Hussey was 18th in the qualifying for the 200-yard individual medley, swimming 1:49.93, while Matt Voight was 24th in 1:51.97 and Michael Gozdan 26th in 1:52.49.
 
Tulio took 17th in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 23.81 seconds, while Fay Moser was 24th in 24.16 and Stella Meyerhoeffer took 27th in 24.25.
 
Sung Lee finished 24th in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.06, and Casey Brown was 32nd in 21.45.
 
The Championships continue Friday with morning preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
