BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland's
Kevin Lindley and
Ryan McNulty were named the Patriot League Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week on Monday, a day after the Greyhounds posted a 12-10 win over then-No. 9 Duke.
Lindley sparked the Greyhounds' offense in the first half, scoring six goals and assisting on another as Loyola jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead.
McNulty matched up with Blue Devils' All-American midfielder Nakeie Montgomery, holding him without a goal after he had entered the game with 14 points in Duke's last three contests.
Lindley put Loyola on the scoreboard in the game's second minute after
Joey Kamish had a caused turnover on a ride and got the ball to fellow attacker
Aidan Olmstead who fed Lindley for a goal. He then scored off an
Evan James feed at 3:57, and his dodge to assist on a
Dylan Binney goal with 3:03 left in the first quarter put Loyola in front, 4-0.
The Blue Devils got back within a pair by the end of the opening period, but Lindley scored the first three of the second to help Loyola go on a 6-0 run. He bookended a goal off an Olmstead assist with a pair of unassisted goals, and he then tallied his sixth of the game with 4:52 left before halftime to give Loyola a 9-2 lead.
His six goals and seven points are a season-high, and his six goals match his career-high for a half, tying his mark from a 2019 win over Colgate.
McNulty and the Greyhounds' defense limited Duke to 10 shots in the game's opening half and only 21 through three quarters. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils had 11 turnovers in the game's first 30 minutes and 17 in the first three quarters.
Individually, he took primary marking responsibilities for Montgomery who came into the game with 19 goals and 9 assists, 14 of the 28 points coming in the three prior games. McNulty helped to hold the first-team All-American to just two assists, one of which came on extra man.
The awards are the fourth of both Lindley and McNulty's careers.
Loyola will be back in action on Saturday, March 19, when it hosts Bucknell at 1 p.m.
