BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland's Payton Rezanka and Sam Shafer were named the Patriot League's Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday after helping the Greyhounds to a 13-9 victory on Saturday over Bucknell.
 
The two were key in the Greyhounds' second half run, during which they at one time scored six in a row and then outpaced the Bison, 8-2, over the entire 30-minute stretch.
 
Shafer finished made seven of his season-high 13 saves during the second half on Saturday as Loyola rallied from three down to beat Bucknell, 13-9.
 
The Loyola graduate student had four saves in the third quarter as Loyola scored the final six goals to go up by three, and he made three more in the final period as the Greyhounds closed out the victory. Bucknell entered the game averaging 14.86 goals per game.
 
Rezanka had another week of big contributions on the defensive end of the field for the Greyhounds, finishing with two caused turnovers and four ground balls as a short-stick defensive midfielder; Rezanka did not give up a goal in one-on-one defense during the game.
 
The senior also was a big part of the Greyhounds' transition game that was 12 of 12 in clears during the second half and 20 of 23 in the game. Bucknell entered the game averaging 14.86 goals per game.
 
Loyola will wrap-up its three-game homestand on Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m. when it hosts the U.S. Military Academy at Ridley Athletic Complex. The game will be the first of a Loyola doubleheader when the women's team takes on Boston University starting at 4 p.m.
