BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Aidan Olmstead and Sam Shafer were major contributors on either end of the field Saturday as the Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team scored an 18-7 Patriot League win over the U.S. Naval Academy, and on Monday, they were named the conference's offensive player and goalkeeper of the week.
 
Olmstead matched his season-high with seven points against the Midshipmen, scoring three times and assisting on four goals.
 
Shafer continued his solid play of late in goal, making nine saves on 15 shots on goal in just under 49 minutes of action.
 
Olmstead was a key part of the early 10-0 Loyola run that the Greyhounds used to eventually lead 12-3 at halftime. He scored twice and added an assist during the fun, and he had an assist on the Greyhounds penultimate second quarter goal.
 
The graduate student then assisted on two goals in the third quarter and scored another during that period. He leads the Greyhounds this year with 40 points on 17 goals and 23 assists.
 
Shafer was a steady presence in the net for Loyola against Navy, making two saves early during the 10-0 run and then coming up with seven more in the second half as the Greyhounds extended their lead.
 
He also played a key role in Loyola's clearing game as the Greyhounds successfully cleared the ball 18 out of 19 times.
 
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Saturday, April 16, with another nationally televised game on CBS Sports Network. Loyola will host Boston University in a Patriot League contest at 12 noon at Ridley Athletic Complex.
