Three Greyhounds Earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

BALTIMORE – Three Loyola University Maryland student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District II Team on Thursday, honoring their excellence in the arena of competition and the classroom.
 
Swimming & diving's Jimmy Hayburn, women's lacrosse's Elli Kluegel and men's lacrosse's Aidan Olmstead were recognized on the team that is selected by CoSIDA.
 
District II is made up of all Division I institutions within the states of Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The at-large division includes all student-athletes from the sports of beach volleyball, bowling, rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo. Kluegel was one of just 15 women's honorees chosen in the district.
 
All three Greyhounds were named to the Academic All-Patriot League teams following their seasons with Kluegel and Olmstead earning their sports' Scholar-Athlete of the Year recognitions for the second year in a row. Kluegel's recognition is her fourth Academic All-District honor, while Hayburn earned his second.
 
Hayburn graduated last week with his bachelor's degree with a perfect 4.0 in finance and information systems. In the pool, Hayburn scored 25 points for the Greyhounds at the 2022 Patriot League Championships with eighth-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and freestyle events and a 12th-place in the 50-yard freestyle, and he swam the second leg on the Greyhounds' 200 freestyle relay team that won the conference title in a school- and meet-record time.
 
He was a member of Loyola's Army ROTC program and earned his top selection to military intelligence after commissioning. He was an ESPN/NFCU Army All-American and ranked No. 1 in his class. Hayburn earned numerous academic honors, including the National Defense Transportation Award for Excellence in Business Innovation and the as the National Security Scholar's Program winner. He was the recipient of the school's Finance Medal for having the highest academic achievement in the Sellinger Business School, and he received the Mary O'Meara Medal for posting the highest grade-point average as a graduating student-athlete. At The Iggy's, Loyola's end-of-the-year award celebration, he was the winner of the Anne McCloskey Leadership Award and the John Mohler Award as the top male senior student-athlete who combined academic and athletic achievement.
 
Kluegel graduated in 2021 with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in innovation in entrepreneurship. She then returned this season to compete as a graduate student while pursuing her Master's of Emerging Media and has a 4.0 in that program. She captained the Greyhounds to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round on the field, scoring 48 goals with eight assists, earning All-Patriot League Second Team recognition in 2022. She leaves Loyola ranked 11th all-time in goals scored with 159.
 
Kluegel, who was the Patriot League's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for all sports, is a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit, Phi Beta Kappa and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies. She is also part of SAAC and the Greyhounds Leadership Academy, and she served as secretary for Omicron Delta Kappa, Loyola's chapter of the National Leadership Honor Society.
 
Olmstead is a first-time Academic All-District II honoree who graduated in May 2021 with a bachelor's degree in international business and global studies and posting a 3.926 grade-point average. He recently finished his M.B.A. after returning for a fifth year at Loyola with and had a GPA to match his undergraduate. Earlier this year, he was named a finalist for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award, one of 10 men's lacrosse players nationally to be so honored. He was named to the Loyola Dean's List every semester of his undergraduate career and received the school's Magis Scholar Leader Award. He was a four-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa and Chi Alpha Sigma.
 
On the field, Olmstead was a two-time All-Patriot League performer and wrapped up his career third all-time at Loyola in points (224). He was one of three players at the school to post 100 or more goals and assists and finished fourth in assists (113) and 10 in goals. He is seventh all-time in the Patriot League in points and 10th in assists.
