LIMERICK, Ireland – A pair of Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse teammates – Josh Fairey and Adam Poitras – are headed to Ireland this week to compete in the 2022 World U-21 Lacrosse Championships for their native Canada.
 
The two will be on the field for the red and white Wednesday, August 10, when Canada takes on the United States in the first game of the event. The game will be broadcast live at 6 p.m. (EDT) on ESPN+.
 
Recently, Fairey and Poitras squared off in box lacrosse as their teams met in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) Junior 'A' Finals. Poitras was named Tournament Most Valuable Player after his Whitby Warriors swept Fairey's Toronto Beaches in the best-of-three series.
 
After playing in the World Championships, the former Hill Academy (Ontario) teammates are slated to return to Ontario to take part in the 2022 Minto Cup, the Canadian National Junior Box Lacrosse Championships. Both the Warriors and Beaches will compete in the event that is to be held in Brampton, Ontario.
 
Canada is one of five teams in Pool 'A' at the World Championships. Following its game against the United States, the Canadian team will face Australia on August 11, England on August 14 and the Haudenosaunee on August 15.
 
Poitras, a rising senior, was the third-leading scorer in 2022 for the Greyhounds, tallying 29 goals and nine assists for 38 points. During his two-plus seasons – including the truncated 2020 campaign when he was a freshman – the left-handed midfielder has scored 45 goals and assisted on 27 for 72 points.
 
Fairey has been a contributor on Loyola's rope unit during his time on the Evergreen campus, seeing action in six games over the last two seasons.
