WORCESTER, Mass. – Loyola University Maryland had three more errors (nine) than it did kills (six) in the first set to fall behind College of the Holy Cross early, but the Greyhounds rallied from there to beat the Crusaders in four, 15-25, 25-18, 27-25, 25-15.
Caitlin Churney posted 10 kills with a .348 hitting percentage.
Lauren Link added 11 kills, and
Cecylia Guye added nine.
Kacy Sekunda (23) and
Ashley Dwyer (14) combined for 37 assists, while
Katie Forsythe had a team-best 14 digs.
After dropping the first set, Loyola led throughout virtually the remainder of the match.
The Crusaders tied the third set at 23-23, 24-24 and 25-25, but the Greyhounds did not allow them to gain the lead. After the final tie score, a
Megan Bukala kill and a Holy Cross hitting error closed the frame out for Loyola.
The Greyhounds continue road action in the Patriot League next weekend with a pair of matches at Navy and American. Loyola will play at American on Friday and at the Midshipmen on Saturday.
