WASHINGTON, D.C. – Loyola University Maryland used a .310 hitting percentage in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead on host American University, but the Eagles rallied to win the next three for a 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-19 Patriot League win on Friday night.
Ally Bauer served an ace to give Loyola set-point in the second at 25-24, but American sided out with an Adelina Berisha kill, and the Eagles then got two more kills from Berisha to close the set and even the match at 1-1.
Loyola tied the third set at 23-23 with a
Lauren Link kill, but this time American closed the frame with blocks on back-to-back points.
Link led all players with 22 kills in the match, while
Megan Bukala had nine.
Caitlin Churney and
Cecylia Guye each tallied nine, and
Adara Kellogg had seven fo the Greyhounds. Kellogg also posted seven blocks, and Churney was in on five.
Ashley Dwyer had a season-high 41 assists for the Greyhounds, and
Katie Forsythe picked up 28 digs.
The Greyhounds continue road play on Saturday, September 23, when they travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to face Navy at 4 p.m.
