BOSTON –
Kenneth Jones scored two of his game-high 16 points on a fading jumper less than two minutes into the second half, staking Loyola University Maryland men's basketball to a 32-31 lead, but host Boston University made threes on its next two possessions and went on to a 66-53 Patriot League victory.
Trailing by a point, Jonas Harper knocked down a three at 17:59, and he then stretched the Terriers' lead to 37-32 with one 44 seconds later, and five was as close as the Greyhounds would get the rest of the way.
Jones made a three for Loyola at 13:18 after an offensive rebound by
Jaylin Andrews, and the deficit was five, 42-37, but Walter Whyte converted a traditional 3-point play just over a minute later for the Terriers.
Andrews pulled up off the dribble to score from 15 feet at 10:20, and it was a 45-40 Boston University lead, but a Whyte three kicked off a 15-0 run that gave the Terriers a 60-40 lead on a Harper three with 6:52 left in regulation.
Whyte finished with 15 points, while Harper had nine an Ethan Brittan-Watts added 13.
A Jones jumper less than three minutes later got the margin to 12, but that was as close as the game would be for the remainder of the contest.
Loyola will be back in action on Wednesday, January 25, with a 7 p.m. game at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania.
